Capturing the Magic: A Playful Photo Journey Through AirVenture

EAA AirVenture 2025 was a feast for the eyes, offering much more than just planes and crowds. The event was sprinkled with whimsical touches that begged to be captured on camera. One standout was the giant inflatable Red M&M, decked out in a vintage aviator cap and goggles, stationed near the Theater in the Woods. Known to fans since 1996, Red is the face of M&M’s, often seen with his sidekick, Yellow. However, Yellow was conspicuously absent, perhaps sent on a wild goose chase by the ever-bossy Red.

AirVenture is not just about admiring aircraft; it’s also a bustling marketplace for buying and selling planes and parts. Some attendees got creative with their sales pitches, making the experience all the more entertaining. And speaking of fun, who could resist the charm of a Rosie the Riveter rubber ducky found in the warbird area? It was the kind of quirky find that made you want to burst into song, channeling your inner Ernie from Sesame Street.

Adding to the event’s playful atmosphere was the “unexploded” bomb display, a running joke among the encampment. Meanwhile, history buffs could appreciate the Robin Hood Toby Mug in the WWII living history camp’s briefing tent. This mug, a nod to the book and film “Twelve O’Clock High,” was a nostalgic piece that once signaled upcoming missions to airmen. Its presence at AirVenture was a delightful reminder of the rich stories woven into aviation history.
