Air Canada Rouge Airbus A319’s Short Landing in Nashville Under NTSB Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating an incident involving an Air Canada Rouge Airbus A319 that landed short of the runway at Nashville International Airport. The flight, which originated from Toronto Pearson International, was scheduled to land on runway 20L but touched down just before reaching it. Fortunately, the aircraft managed to roll out without further issues and taxied to the apron under its own power. However, the plane remains grounded in Nashville over 48 hours later, with reports suggesting it may have struck an approach light during the landing.

The Airbus A319-100, registered as C-GSJB, was operating as Flight AC1717 and departed Toronto at 16:42, landing in Nashville at 17:24 after a flight lasting one hour and 43 minutes. Despite the unexpected landing, there were no injuries to passengers or crew, and the aircraft did not sustain any damage. Nevertheless, the return flight was canceled, and the plane has yet to leave Nashville. Air Canada has been contacted for further comments, and updates will be provided as they become available. The aircraft in question is a 23-year-old model, delivered to Air Canada in 2002, with a seating capacity of 136 passengers across business and economy classes.

While the exact distance by which the A319 landed short of the runway is still unclear, the incident could have been much more severe. Nashville’s runway 20L is 8,000 feet long and features a 1,000-foot Runway Safety Area beyond its end, designed to prevent accidents. This incident follows a previous close call at Nashville International last year, when an Alaska Airlines flight had to abort takeoff due to a runway incursion by a Southwest aircraft. These events highlight the importance of stringent safety measures and constant vigilance in aviation operations.
