The renovation project is a significant undertaking by the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA), promising an economic impact of $2.5 billion and the creation of 14,300 jobs. The new terminal, now 92% complete, will feature expanded parking, improved security systems, new baggage claim areas, and beautifully landscaped outdoor plazas. Originally a hub for US Airways until 2005, PIT is being reimagined to better serve today’s travelers. The dress rehearsal will allow staff to familiarize themselves with the new setup and identify any last-minute issues before the terminal officially opens. While volunteers won’t be paid, they will enjoy free parking for their efforts.
Paul Hoback, ACAA’s executive vice president and chief development officer, highlighted the project’s benefits, stating, “We’re transforming an airport designed for a different era. This renovation not only stabilizes and reduces airline costs by $23 million annually but also enhances the passenger experience.” The revamped terminal will feature more TSA security lanes and smart scanners, making the security process faster and more convenient for travelers.
