Korean Air’s Airbus A380s Make a Comeback to Europe’s 6th Busiest Airport After 11 Years

Frankfurt Airport is a hotspot for quadjet aircraft, especially the iconic Boeing 747 and Airbus A340, with the Airbus A380 making a notable appearance as well. Recently, Korean Air announced the return of its A380s to Frankfurt, Europe’s sixth-busiest airport, following Asiana’s lead. This move marks a significant comeback, as Korean Air’s A380s haven’t been a regular sight at Frankfurt since March 2014. However, this winter, the airline plans to reintroduce regular flights, bringing back the double-decker giants to the delight of aviation enthusiasts.

Starting October 26, when northern carriers like Korean Air switch to their winter schedules, the A380s will once again grace Frankfurt’s runways. This return is confirmed by Korean Air’s booking engine, although the airline has a history of route changes, so nothing is set in stone. The A380s will replace the smaller 777-300ER on the route, offering a 47% increase in seating capacity per flight. With 407 seats, including 12 luxurious Kosmo suites and 94 business class seats, the A380 promises a more premium experience for travelers.

Frankfurt is a major hub for flights between Seoul and Europe, with around 425,000 round-trip passengers flying this route annually. This makes it the second-largest European market for flights from Seoul, just behind Paris CDG. The demand is driven by Germany’s significant South Korean population and strong business ties. As Korean Air continues to expand its fleet with new Boeing orders, the return of the A380 to Frankfurt is a testament to the enduring appeal of these majestic aircraft.
