**AirVenture Highlights: A Visual Journey**
The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh at Wittman Regional Airport in Wisconsin is a spectacle that aviation enthusiasts eagerly anticipate each year. This year’s event, held on July 22, was no exception, drawing crowds from all over to witness the marvels of aviation. The vibrant atmosphere was captured beautifully by photographer David Tulis, whose images tell the story of this extraordinary gathering.
The event kicked off with a breathtaking performance by the NextGen Eagles, who soared through the skies in their Christen Eagle biplanes, setting the tone for an exhilarating airshow. Meanwhile, the AOPA campus was a hub of activity, with member services staff on hand to assist attendees and ensure they made the most of their experience. The campus also hosted engaging presentations, including the State of Aviation Safety, which drew a keen audience eager to learn from industry experts.
One of the standout attractions was the Beechcraft QU-22B, a modified Bonanza that served as an early drone during the Vietnam War. Now owned by Texan David Valaer, this historic aircraft captivated visitors in the warbirds area. The event also featured lively discussions, such as the ‘Ask the A&Ps’ podcast, which entertained a packed crowd with hosts Colleen Sterling, Mike Busch, and Paul New.
A significant highlight was the announcement of the new general aviation MOSAIC rules by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. These rules, which shift from weight-based to performance-based parameters, promise to enhance the flexibility and capabilities of general aviation. The announcement was met with enthusiasm by attendees, including FAA Deputy Administrator Chris Rocheleau, Rep. Sam Graves, and EAA Chairman Jack Pelton.
AOPA President Darren Pleasance was also in the spotlight, receiving an honor from EAA CEO Jack Pelton and addressing a Pilot Town Hall, where he shared insights and updates with fellow aviation enthusiasts. The camaraderie and shared passion for flight were palpable throughout the event, making it a truly memorable experience for all who attended.
